Martfoot Made is a collaborative clay journey shared between Katie and Matt Martin Lightfoot. Our pieces celebrate our partnership and love of exploring this big, beautiful world. All pieces are created in Austin, Texas!
Matt throws, and Katie hand builds. He creates on the wheel, and she adds her whimsical touch through color and design to his pieces and her unique hand built creations. Our clay goods will bring a little love and magic to your home.
At Martfoot Made, we strive to create unique and high-quality, handmade clay goods. We believe in the beauty of imperfection and celebrate the uniqueness of each piece. Each piece is loving made with our hands. We speak good intentions into each creation throughout the process to bring good vibes to each home.
THE PROCESS
01. inspire
We find inspiration for our pieces from this big, beautiful world. From the wildflowers in our backyard to the expanse of Big Bend, we find beauty in the big adventures and the quiet inbetweens of life.
02. create
Throw. Trim. Build. We source our clay from a local Austin business and get messy! Matt throws and trims our bud vases, planters, and vessels on the wheel. Katie hand builds her creations.
03. fire
Our pots are sent to the kiln for their first firing. During the bisque firing, the kiln transforms our bone-dry pots from their fragile state to a porous and durable state - ceramics.
04. color
After the bisque firing, our pots are checked for cracks and imperfections. Pots that pass the test will be glazed. Our pots are dipped, painted, and sometimes kept raw before their final firing.
05. fire
Our pots go in for their final firing. During this final firing, pots are transformed to their final form. Our glazes flow and fuse to our ceramics resulting in the colors . Once out of the kiln, our pots are sanded and ready to head to their homes.
